Water bombs and pop bags

Who doesn't love them on hot summer days: water bombs. But did you know that you can also make them yourself - out of paper?

Folding water balloons takes some skill and patience - and of course you can only use them once. With the pop bag, on the other hand, you can pop them several times!

Water bombs

It is best to use origami paper or wrapping paper for the water bombs. First cut out a square measuring 21 x 21 cm.

Folding the water balloon

• The right side is on top. Now fold the paper once on both sides and open it again. You will now see the folded lines as a cross. A
• Place the paper in front of you so that one corner is facing you. Now fold the paper lengthwise and open it again. B
• Now grasp the sheet at the marked points. C Push the paper together until your fingers touch in the middle. Four triangles stand up. D
• Now grasp the sheet of paper at the marked points. C Push the paper together until your fingers touch in the middle. Four triangles stand up. D
• Now fold the front triangle to the right and the back triangle to the left. Flatten the folded paper well. Pictures E + F
• Lay the paper with the long edge facing up (point towards you). Fold the two corners of the top layer towards the tip. G
• Fold the side corners of the triangles created in point B towards the center. This creates two "pockets". H
• The top layer of the bottom corner has two points. Fold these along the marking lines in the picture. I
• Now fold the marked triangles along the slanted sides over the triangles with the "pockets" and unfold them again. J
• Lift the side triangles with the "pockets". Open them slightly and push the marked triangles inside. K
• Turn the sheet over carefully. Repeat points G-K on this side so that both sides of the sheet look the same. M
• Carefully pull the two halves of the paper apart and blow the paper through the hole to form a cube. N
• Carefully fill the water bomb (see photo top left) under the tap and off you go!

Pop bag

Banger bags are folded out of paper. If you hold them by one corner and let them whip through the air like a whip, they make a loud cracking sound. That's why they're called banger bags!

Materials

Folding a pop bag

• Cut a rectangle measuring 27 x 50 cm.
• Fold the rectangle so that the long edges meet and unfold it again. A
• Now fold all the corners towards the center line. B
• Fold the paper along the center line. C
• Lay the folded paper down so that the long edge is facing you. Fold the short sides together and unfold them again. This creates a visible fold line. D
• Now fold the corners upwards so that they lie on the previously created fold line. The tips of the corners protrude. E
• Now turn the whole thing over and fold it in half along the visible fold line. F
• Now take the pop bag in your hand. You must hold the corners that protrude (open end) in your hand. Let the bag whizz down through the air. If it doesn't pop the first time, try it with more force and momentum: bang!
