This game is perfect for summer activities where it doesn't matter if clothes get wet, sticky, or dirty. The goal of the game is for groups to collect as much cola as possible in a plastic bottle.
Materials
For 20 people in 4 groups
For the game:
- About 20 cola cans (the more, the better)
- 4 large nails
- 4 empty plastic bottles
- Pre-printed “drilling permits”
For setting up:
- Painter’s tape
Preparations
In a wooded area, the soda cans should be securely attached to trees using painter’s tape. This works best on thin trees, where you can wrap the tape all the way around them.
The cans are marked with numbers.
To make the game a little more “interesting,” the cans can be shaken beforehand, but they must be set up immediately before the game begins; otherwise, the pressure inside the cans will drop again.
How to Play
The children are divided into groups of 3–5. Each group receives an empty plastic bottle and a large nail. The basic principle of the game is simple: The groups must pierce the cans (without removing them from the tree) with the nail and catch as much of the cola as possible in the plastic bottle. The can must not be opened or pierced at the normal drinking opening.
In principle, piercing Coke cans is “illegal,” and there are supervisors (leaders) in the forest who will penalize the groups if they catch them pouring out the Coke. As a penalty, the supervisor drinks a little Coke from the bottle or pours some onto the ground.
The group can prevent this by going to headquarters and purchasing a “drilling permit” for a specific can number. As payment, part of the Coke is drunk or poured onto the ground. If the group has a permit for a specific can, they are safe when drilling into that can (they cannot be punished by supervisors).
End of the Game
The game ends when all the cans are empty (the more cans there are, the longer the game lasts). Generally, the group with the most Coke left in their bottle wins. As a fun prize, the group can be given a bottle of Coca-Cola.
It’s important to collect all the cans and the tape. Optionally, this can also be done by the participants as a second part of the game (bonus points per can with tape that they bring back).
Notes
- Experience has shown that only a fraction of the spilled cola is caught. Therefore, the penalties and the costs for drilling permits should be kept moderate.
- Since the children will get covered in cola, they should be told in advance to wear clothes that can get dirty.
- This game should only be played when the weather is warm.
