The clove hitch is a loop that remains a fixed size (it is not a tapered knot). It is possible to tie the clove hitch directly around the attachment point.

 

Advantages:

The Palstek is easy to untie and holds very well.

Disadvantages:

The Palstek looks very inelegant.

Instructions

* Make a loop. (As shown in the first picture)
* Thread the end of the rope around the fastener. (You can also simply make a loop of the correct size if you can then pull the rope over the fastener afterward.)
* Pull the rope through the loop from step 1 from below.
* Thread the end of the rope behind the rope leading to the loop (step 1).
* Pull the rope through the loop (Step 1) from the top.
* Tighten. Done.
